How Boo Williams Star Keldon Johnson Took Over The Peach Jam Quarterfinals
Keldon Johnson hasn't had many bad games this spring and summer. The No. 10 prospect in our Flo40 rankings consistently plays with as much grit as talent -- which is saying something.
But for much of the Peach Jam quarterfinals last weekend in North Augusta, South Carolina, the Boo Williams (Virginia) star struggled to find his groove.
Then, with only two baskets to his name and under six minutes left, the 6-foot-6 Johnson flipped a switch against Houston Hoops (Texas) and had one of the greatest stretches of play in the tournament.
Johnson unleashed the entire arsenal -- a nasty step-back jumper, a hesitation floater, a heat-check three-pointer -- to drop 11 of his 15 points in just over three minutes. He led Boo Williams to a 79-71 victory and a birth in the semifinals.
Great players generally rise to the occasion in big games, and Johnson, who averaged 17.4 points and 7.3 rebounds at Peach Jam, pieced together a run that would be difficult for anyone to match.
