CAA Announces Revised Policy Regarding Games Impacted By COVID-19 PANDEMIC
The Colonial Athletic Association has announced a revised policy regarding men’s and women’s basketball games that are unable to be played due to COVID-19.
RICHMOND, Va. (December 28, 2021) – The Colonial Athletic Association has announced a revised policy regarding men’s and women’s basketball games that are unable to be played due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
If an institution has a minimum of seven available student-athletes and one countable coach, it must participate in the scheduled basketball contest. If an institution does not have the requisite number of participants, it may still elect at its own discretion to play the contest.
Any contest that cannot be played will initially be counted as a postponement. Institutions will work with each other and the conference office to reschedule the contest. If a game is unable to be rescheduled, it would be counted as a forfeit for the purpose of the conference standings, resulting in a loss for the team that caused the cancellation and a win for the opposing team. If the postponed game as a result of both teams being unable to play, it would be counted as a tie in the conference standings. Canceled games will not have an impact on a team’s overall NCAA record.
Conference teams are permitted to schedule additional games against each other that are not part of the conference schedule, but those games would not count toward the conference standings.
Conference play in CAA men’s basketball begins on Wednesday, December 29 and CAA women’s basketball conference play opens on Friday, December 31.
